You know that funny feeling you get when you bump your elbow. It’s called hitting the “funny bone”. Why? I’ll tell ‘ya. This term is actually a pun – a play on the similarity between the word humorous and the name of the upper arm of our body – the humerus. Thus, hitting your elbow is like hitting your “humerus/humorous”.
What’s really funny? It’s not the bone that causes the feeling at all though. The funny feeling only arises if you bump your exposed ulnar nerve in the area.
Ha!
